Celebrate the Installation of the Sheldon Peck Historic Marker

The Lombard Historical Society is pleased and excited to announce that the Sheldon Peck Homestead has been recognized by the Illinois State Historical Society as a site of national or statewide significance with an Historic Marker commemorating Sheldon Peck’s legacy as a radical abolitionist and a Conductor on the Underground Railroad. His other contributions include his work as an itinerant folk portraitist and advocate for education and women’s rights.

The Illinois State Historical Society’s marker program, in conjunction with the Pomeroy Foundation, is designed to recognize sites of national or statewide significance. The Society relies on individuals who are passionate about their local history and are willing to help in the placement of markers, often covering historically significant subjects that might otherwise remain obscure.

We would like to invite you to attend a ceremony honoring Sheldon Peck and celebrating the installation of this significant achievement.

The ceremony will take place at 1:30 pm, Thursday, August 11, 2022 at the Sheldon Peck Homestead, 355 E Parkside Avenue in Lombard, Illinois.

This event is free and open to the public.
