LHS Collects Covid-19 Related Objects, Stories & Images

The Lombard Historical Society (LHS) is actively collecting objects, stories and images that capture the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the people of Lombard, Illinois, with the focus on materials created specifically for, or by, the people of Lombard, or created for Lombard, Illinois.

The LHS Archives holds information, photographs and objects that spans over one hundred and fifty years of Lombard history. Mysteries about Lombard houses, events and people of the past can frequently be answered by the archivist, if someone has donated items to the museum. Diaries and journals are especially informative, providing details about local personalities, daily life, social customs and the economy.

This is an appeal to all Lombardians to document, preserve, and at a safe distance, donate those items about your experience with COVID-19 to the Lombard Historical Society. LHS is collecting photos, films, audio and video recordings, journals and reflections, email correspondence, recipes, and artwork (digital captures of music, drawing, poetry, and painting) documenting your experiences during this unprecedented period.

All Lombardians will have a “story to tell the grandkids” about the Coronavirus. We are, all of us, like it or not, experiencing a rare, hopefully once-in-a-lifetime situation, with the circumstances of COVID-19 and its impact on all generations. As you endure the hardships and shortages, as well as the kindness and generosity of your neighbors, record your experiences, and set aside these objects for future generations, so that they understand what you mean when you say “COVID-19” to them.
History is now, not just “a long time ago.”

Please email the Archivist [archive@lombardhistory.org] about any Covid-19 related donations or enquiries.
