Join the Friends of the East Branch of the DuPage River Trail on
April 22, 2023 from 11am - 4pm
for a family-friendly (5 mile) ride to
“Celebrate the Trails”
Celebrate Trails Day is an annual spring celebration of America’s trails. Started by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy in 2013, the celebration encourages people across the country to get outside and enjoy the nation’s exceptional trails and trail systems.
This ride will feature DuPage’s 2 rails-to-trails systems, the Illinois Prairie Path and the Great Western Trail. In addition, you will ride on existing and soon to be built sections of the connecting East Branch DuPage River trail which recently received a 1.5m grant for Phase 1 engineering study.
At various stops along the way, riders will learn about the East Branch River and the history of the Illinois Prairie Path and the Great Western Trail.
● See first-hand how trails bring communities together. Local trail-friendly businesses will provide refreshments and entertainment along the route.
● Lombard Historical Society stop will feature the exhibit, “The Timeless Appeal of the Bicycle,” a History of Bikes in DuPage County.
Brian and Joyce Ostberg will present “History & Relics of the CA&E Electric Railway” at the Lombard Historical Society from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. Click here to register for the presentation.
● Riders will also find out how they can help advocate for additional trails such as the East Branch Dupage River Trail.
Brian Kalbfleisch of Retro Glow Cycles in Lombard, Illinois organized these amazing rides. Check out his website to schedule a bike tune-up before the big day.
