Lombard Historical Society Museums
Field Trips & School Visits

Teaching local history helps students connect with their community and understand the people and events that shaped it. Lombard’s rich past offers valuable lessons in resilience, innovation, and civic pride. Learning about figures like Ellen Martin, who became the first woman to vote in Illinois in 1891, shows how local actions can spark broader social change. The York Center Cooperative, founded in 1947 as an intentionally inclusive community, highlights Lombard’s role in promoting racial and social equity. Studying these stories fosters critical thinking, civic engagement, and a deeper appreciation for diverse contributions to history.

The Lombard Historical Society provides engaging programs, hands-on activities, and resources to bring these lessons to life in the classroom. By teaching Lombard’s history, we inspire the next generation to appreciate and preserve their community’s unique history.
