Located at 355 E Parkside Ave, the Sheldon Peck Homestead is the oldest home in Lombard. Learn about what life would have been like when Illinois was the frontier, the folk artist Sheldon Peck, and the Underground Railroad in a confirmed Underground Railroad site.
Wagons West
Learn about the challenges pioneers faced to reach the frontier. When the Pecks came to Lombard there would have been limited access to resources. Students will have a tour of the homestead and learn how to run a farm. Students will play a game to see how well they would to on the wagon trail, and have the option of making rope, and/or butter. This program last approximately 1 hour and starts at $5 per student. Groups of 30 or less. Chaperones are free.
Peck and the Underground Railroad
The Sheldon Peck Homestead is part of the National Parks Service Network to Freedom, a verified stop on the Underground Railroad. Students will learn about the United States and Lombard during the 1850s. Students will learn about the Underground Railroad, and the Peck’s role. Students will have a tour of the homestead and learn about the struggle of freedom seekers. This program lasts approximately 45 minutes and is $5 per student. Groups of 30 or less. Chaperones are free.
